Happy Nowruz! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nowruz

Nowruz (Persian: ‫نوروز‬ Nowruz, [nouˈɾuːz]; literally "new day")

is the Iranian New Year, also known as the Persian New Year, which is celebrated worldwide by various ethnolinguistic groups.

Despite its Iranian and Zoroastrian origins, Nowruz has been celebrated by diverse communities. It has been celebrated for over 3,000 years in Western Asia, Central Asia, the Caucasus, the Black Sea Basin, and the Balkans. It is a secular holiday for most celebrants that is enjoyed by people of several different faiths but remains a holy day for Zoroastrians, Bahais, and some Muslim communities.

Nowruz is the day of the vernal equinox and marks the beginning of spring in the Northern Hemisphere. It marks the first day of the first month (Farvardin) of the Iranian calendar. It usually occurs on March 21 or the previous or following day, depending on where it is observed. The moment the Sun crosses the celestial equator and equalizes night and day is calculated exactly every year, and families gather together to observe the rituals.

Typically, before the arrival of Nowruz, family members gather around the Haft-sin table and await the exact moment of the March equinox to celebrate the New Year. 1 Everything that is symbolized represents the life, the creation, what man has achieved.

♥ "Serkeh" (Vinegar) it means Man has matured to convert, to produce from the Earth.

♥ Goldfish is the sea. It represents the life of the sea.

♥ "Sib" (Apple) is what comes from the trees, representing the access to above.

♥ “Sonbol” (Hyacinth flower) by the strong scent this flower produces it is announcing the beginning of the spring. 1 03 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nowruz

♥ Decorated Eggs. The eggs were usually put on a flat surface or on a mirror with another mirror in front of it. It is said that in winter the Earth is on the horn of a bull. When the change of winter to spring happens, the bull throws the Earth from one horn to the other and the Earth shakes. And usually one looks for that vibration of the egg and you see it is the beginning of the spring.

♥ "Sabze" (Grass) is usually a grain, wheat of lentils which is soaked in water 20 days before the New Year and it is let to grow. On the 13th day, this grass has a special effect. It must be taken out of the house, symbolizing that if anyone came in and put bad luck or similar on the house members, then the grass is thrown out on the running river, so it can take everything with it. On the 13th day of the Nowruz hundreds of thousands of this grass bunches are seen floating on the rivers. Before being thrown away, one must knot a few grass strands together and make a wish.

♥ “Somaq" (Sumac), the orange dust is showing the maturity of the man that managed to process the grains, it represents the dust of the Earth.

♥ "Sham'dan" (Candlesticks) are lighted and stay on. The superstition is that no one should blow the candle out.

♥ A gold coin must also be put on the table and it represents the wealth for the family.

“The Iranian culture understood 3-4000 years ago the cycle of this planet which is now called annual. The Iranian New Year goes to the precise second of the change, is it not by 12 o’clock. So 365 days, we have so many hours and so many seconds, brings Earth back to the point of the New Year. The Iranian New Year and the whole of the Silk Road countries calculate to that second. 2019 the change of the time was 23:58 and a few seconds CET on 20th of March. Next year it can be different. If it is before 12:00 noontime that day becomes the first day of the New Year. If it is after 12:00 noontime, the next day becomes the beginning of the New Year. The table prepared with all the elements stays as is from the New Year day for 12 days. In those 12 days, all the family members and friends meet and celebrate together. On the 13th day of New Year, no one in Iran should do anything, no one should work anything because it brings bad luck.“

Iranian culture is about love, care, and respect and it was a pleasure to share such celebration within the Keshe Foundation.
